Auditions!
NBT holds auditions twice a year; once each semester. Fall 2007 first round of tryouts will be held Monday, August 27th at 5:00 p.m. as well as Tuesday, August 28th at 5:00 p.m. in Lincoln Hall, Room 107 (follow signs posted at the front door). Watch out for flyers and announcements during Orientation Week!
- Why try out for NBT? - NBT consists of a group of dedicated, musically inspired women who show their passion through singing. Energetic, a little wild, fun-loving, sisters, charades masters, ever-striving dancers, undeterred beatboxers, and charming serenaders is what we like to call ourselves. Sharing your college career with 15 other spirited ladies who all share your love of music is an adventure of a lifetime...the aura of the group will stay with you forever. To put it simply, we have the time of our lives doing what we love most, together.
- What is the audition all about? - For the first round of try outs, just bring yourself and your healthy voice. We will ask you to sing simple scales and recall pitches. For first call backs (second round) please prepare a verse and a chorus of a popular song (one most of us have heard before, please). For second call backs (third round) we will guide you in learning a small piece of one of our songs and ask you to sing with us in sectionals.
- What can you do to prepare? - Drink LOTS of water! Eat fruit as often as possible, especially if you're just getting over a cold. Before audition day, try to stay away from thick products like milk, orange juice, carbonated drinks (ahem...alcohol) and...sadly...chocolate. Get some sleep too...we want to see you with as much enthusiasm and energy as you've got!
- What are we looking for? - We want to see YOU. Show us that the song you chose to sing has value to you... confidence is key. Sing out. If we can't hear you, we definintely won't be able to tell if there's a hidden Mariah in you. Sing "straight." Although we all love Mariah and her vibrato and trills, we want to hear the pureness and quality of your voice...one with personal style, but also blending. Remember: a cappella is created with blend, so listening to others singing with you will guide you in tuning your voice to the whole sound. Lastly, have fun! We want to see all of your beautiful smiles!
